Mashed Potato Boats →
This is a brilliant dish to make for a brunch. Great way to combine eggs and potatoes in one dish. And a great way to use up leftover mashed potatoes.

Intentionally Left Blank: Somebody Else's Beef... →
Everytime I come across somebody’s writing about a recipe from the book, I cringe a little out of fear that the recipe bombed. So when I saw this I smiled from ear to ear. And then I remembered how good this dish really is and wished I had egg noodles to make it right away.
Thanks, Dan!

Reviews
I’ve been nervous about reading reviews, especially those from strangers. But so far it’s been great. There is one on Amazon and one on Goodreads that I’ve encountered. I liked the one on Goodreads so much that I’m including it here:
“I don’t have a whole lot to learn about cast iron, really. I checked this book out of the library so that I could see if...

Best Roast Chicken Ever! →
Oh, I’m so touched! A woman I’ve never had the pleasure to meet (or at least haven’t YET had the pleasure to meet) made two recipes from the Everything Cast-Iron Cookbook the first night she had it. TWO! And it looks delicious. So excited to see people putting the book to use. Thanks!
Ceramic Stove and Cast Iron Pans
Cast iron pans work great on gas stovetops. If you have an electric stovetop with conductive coils, then they’ll also work great. However, if you have a ceramic-glass stovetop, you need to read your user manual before cooking with cast-iron pans. Most manufacturers will tell you not to use cast-iron pans or any pans without a flat bottom.
If you decide to use a cast-iron pan on your...
I need a starter skillet →
A few folks have asked me for advice about what they should get first if they’re going to start cooking in cast iron. I would suggest getting an 8”, 10” or 12” skillet to start with, depending on your family size. If you are mostly likely only going to cook for 1, go with the 8”, if you’re going to cook for 2-3, the 10” is just fine. If you’re going...
Where to buy cast-iron cookware
A few people have asked where and how to get started. If you’re lucky enough to have a relative or friend who has an older seasoned skillet who will give it to you, take it. Seriously the best. Otherwise, try to find a flea market or check yard sales. You may be able to find a piece of good used and well-cared-for cast-iron there.
However, since this isn’t a usable answer for many...
It's HEEERRRREEEE!
My book is here. In my house. In my hand. In my kitchen. And it looks great and it makes me happy and I read the acknowledgments page and cried (again) and I reread parts and smiled. I’m proud of this. And while I understand if you don’t buy the book. I’d be delighted if you would actually purchase it. I have a pen specifically for making autographs that the delightful <a...

Cast-Iron Goddess →
Many thanks to Chuck Sudo over at Chicagoist.com for recognizing that I am indeed a Cast Iron Goddess. Honestly, I’m blushing and pretty sure that I’m not ethereal enough to be a goddess. Maven, maybe. Proponent, for sure. Lover, for definite.

Cilantro: Hate it or love it? →
People either love cilantro, or they hate it. This New York Times article helps to explain why. And I had no idea that Julia Child was so averse to cilantro and arugula.

Thanks, Scott Robbin!
I have to thank Scott Robbin for doing the behind the scenes mumbo-jumbo with some kinda file I’ve never heard of to get this car started. I’ll be spending some time kicking the wheels and getting things polished over the next few weeks, but at least for a while, this site is going to be the support site for the Everything Cast-Iron Cookbook. It will be on store shelves (virtual or...
